Hey! Wasn't this supposed to be a homeschool blog?
It's been a while since I've actually blogged about our homeschooling experience, but I think my excuse is a good one this time: It's been so comfortable homeschooling lately that we sometimes forget that we're homeschooling. I think this is some sort of milestone.
Of course we've made some changes since my last homeschool update... We're still using the CHC curriculum - but have dropped Saxon math in favor of a self-paced online program. The biggest change we made after getting back on schedule following our long Christmas break concerns when we 'do' school. I was having so much trouble not losing my mind during the day with the demands of a 5, 3, and 1 year old while trying to actually talk to the boys about something school-related. We simply never had more than 10 minutes of time together... and a good portion of even those 10 minutes usually was interrupted by squeals of joy or screams of booboos (real or imagined).
We all decided that something drastic had to be done. And so we've done it. The boys sit down with Dave and I after the other kids are in bed each night for the bulk of their lessons. They still do independent work and reading during the day... But our actual 'school' time is now when it's dark.. and quiet. Ahhh.
Now I have more time to play with the little ones and read with Yvonne... (Oh - and clean the house.... answer the phone... walk the dog... cook dinner.... do the laundry... etc.)
Of course this means that Dave and I have scheduled away most of our free-time together... But technically we weren't getting a lot of that anyway with the chaos generated by our previous schedule. And - neither of us are opposed to declaring a holiday when we realize it's needed.

New Orleans police remove parishioners occupying closed Uptown churches - Breaking News from New Orleans - Times-Picayune - NOLA.com
New Orleans police evicted parishioners from two Uptown Catholic churches Tuesday, allowing the Archdiocese of New Orleans to reclaim the churches which parishioners had occupied around the clock for almost 10 weeks.
Police were instructed to arrest occupiers if they resisted, with Archbishop Alfred Hughes deciding "It's time to bring this to a close," spokeswoman Sarah Comiskey said.
In a coordinated operation police, accompanied by lawyers from the city attorney's office, pulled up around 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel on Louisiana Avenue, and at St. Henry Church, on Gen. Pershing Street, about a mile away.
I know in my heart that we're next. Pray for us.
