Field Trip: Mississippi Sandhill Cranes

George in the field - almost literally.

A stand of saw palmettos.

William at the visitor's center.

Pretty wildflowers at marker 20.

George takes in the view.

The field trip was a complete success! Despite the dreary weather - Dave and the boys had a good time AND managed to see some rare Mississippi Sandhill Cranes. The boys were also thrilled that they were able to find some pitcher plants in their natural habitat -- these are fantastic native carnivorous plants that they had read about and were hoping to see in person.

Pitcher plants!
The boys have gone out on a field trip to the Missisissippi Sandhill Crane Wildlife Refuge with their father this morning. Unfortunately, the weather chose today to break our recent drought -- but hopefully they'll get a chance to at least walk around in the mud a bit. They have cameras and will be posting pictures when they get home.

In the meantime, George has posted some new photos in his photoblog.
